Ask about porcelain veneers for covering imperfections of the smile
It’s no surprise that Forked River, New Jersey area patients want to look their best. But when their smile is imperfect, they may notice that they are more self-conscious about sharing their smile with others in social situations. The smile is the first impression given to a stranger, and it should look its best with the help of Drs. LouAnn Van Liew and Deborah Hoover of All About Smiles Dentistry, patients can enhance their smile using restorations called porcelain veneers.
What are porcelain veneers?
Porcelain veneers, also described as “dental veneers,” are shell-like restorations custom-made for patients. The shell is made to bond onto the front of a tooth to disguise imperfections. Many patients will use porcelain veneers to address common aesthetic issues that can occur on the anterior (front) teeth, including:
• Misalignment
• Permanent staining
• Chips and cracks
• Unusual shape and size
• Gaps between teeth
How do porcelain veneers work?
The veneer is fabricated to match the patient’s existing teeth to ensure it blends in naturally with their smile. Veneers cover the teeth and can make it easy for patients to enhance their smiles. In some cases, patients with various imperfections on the teeth near the front of the smile will use several porcelain veneers to transform their look completely!

Do veneers stain?
They do not, which sets them apart from alternative solutions such as composite resin bonding, which needs to be replaced regularly due to staining.
Understanding the porcelain veneers process
The dentist starts with an evaluation during which patients can learn more about the veneer and determine if they are a good candidate. Once a patient chooses to move forward with placing these restorations, the teeth are prepared by removing a thin portion of the enamel. That helps ensure the final veneer will adhere without adding unwanted bulk. Impressions are created and sent to a laboratory with instructions regarding the final appearance of the veneer. Once the restoration is completed and returned to All About Smiles Dentistry, the dentist will bond the restoration to the tooth to create the finished result.
